Global L&D Director / Head of

We need an experienced L&D professional from within the recruitment & staffing industry who can spearhead this rapidly growing function globally. Operating at a senior management level and working with a global portfolio of businesses; the role requires someone with enough of a knowledge base to help shape best practices across the organisation (not just train them!).

The eventual role holder can based out of any of our offices globally; London, NYC, Frankfurt, LA, Boston. We see our L&D operation as having been critical to the success we've seen over these last few years, and expect it to be even more important over the next few!

In 2020 we had a total turnover of ~£45m, Gross profit of ~£17.5m, and EBIT of ~£5.5m.  We have a specific vision in place of ~£50m in Gross profit by the end of 2025 and effectively a tripling of headcount up to 500 over that same period, and we intend to continue adding to our portfolio of synergy businesses over that period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to provide expert advice, guidance and support on L&D strategy and initiatives across all regions globally. 
  • Contribute to the success of employee engagement, succession planning, client business growth and retention.
  • Lead the L&D team; ensuring they are kept motivated, that they are constantly challenged to progress, and assisted in their development. 
  • Responsible for the design and strategy of the L&D function, taking charge of the progression framework, competency framework, and hiring strategy for the team.
  • Ensure our onboarding process operates is “best in class” and runs efficiently and effectively in all regions.
  • Ensure our training programs are best in class, kept up to date, and delivered to a consistently high standard.
  • Analyse, deliver, design and report on skills gaps, learning experiences that enhance individual performance and business growth.
  • Oversight of the global L&D annual calendar

Progression of role:

The successful candidate will be able to provide examples of having already done some of the below but more importantly have the ability to step into this role in the near future , and crucially who will be able to keep up with what is a particularly entrepreneurial business as we continue along with our plans in the coming years.

The lifecycle of the role could be described as;

  1. Analyse – how effective is the business model currently? Where is there opportunity for improvement? Do we have the necessary data + what is it showing us?
  2. Develop – given what we’ve learnt in (1), what is the appropriate best practice process for this element of our business model? How do we ensure its fit for purpose globally?
  3. Implement – Communication and training of the above; not just bringing the consultants with you but ensuring that our various systems and wider processes are in sync with the new best practice
  4. Evaluate – is the process appropriately embedded – i.e. is everyone doing it. Is it working?

Eventual responsibility not just for the communication and training of best practices, but the establishment/development of them. To own the ‘factory line’, ensuring our business is as efficient and effective as possible, as well as ensuring scalability and standardisation of excellent customer service.

Developing an in depth understanding of the key business processes that make up our business model, possessing an ability to establish scientifically where opportunities for improvement exist, and the appropriate process-based mindset required to develop new best-practices where required.
